Participating in CSEP
In order to make progress on the important issues relating to earthquake predictability, CSEP depends on establishing an active, open, and collaborative group of scientists and engineers. The activities of CSEP must be peer-reviewable, and the CSEP Testing Centers must operate for a long enough period of time to evaluate forecasts against a significant number of large, damaging earthquakes.
CSEP can potentially have a significant impact in the field of earthquake predictions by providing reliable and dependable information about how earthquakes forecasts are made (e.g what observational data was used) and how they are evaluated (e.g. does a forecast work better than chance). Once a significant number of researchers are satisfied that these issues are being carefully managed, then the discussion should change to more fundamental science questions about the predictability of earthquakes and the exploration of new techniques for exposing that innate predictability (if any).
If you are interested in participating in CSEP, or in following the activities of the collaboration, the starting point is the main CSEP Project home page. This home page will link to all the testing center and will provide information about CSEP activities.
Access to the earthquake forecasts evaluations are available to all registered members of the CSEP. Please send email to info@cseptesting.org to register as a member of CSEP.
CSEP working groups have been formed in several areas including: Data Management, Development of Forecasts, Evaluation of Forecasts, Public Use of Forecasts, and Information Technology. If you are interested in participating in any of these areas, please contact info@cseptesting.org for more information.
